NPR LogoOne of my favorite things about using social media is the ability to reach a massive amount of interested people at little or no cost.
Let me give you an example. This morning I did a quick glance at my Facebook status page. NPR has a Fan Page on Facebook. I am one of their 445,767 current fans. They posted a video called “Sneak Preview Of The New NPR.org” that appeared on my status page. It caught my interest. I clicked through and spent 3:06 watching the video.
Cost to NPR for the publicity? Zero.
Value of potentially getting that message in from of 445,767 people that have pro-actively opted in? You decide. My answer… priceless.
Does social media work overnight? Not usually. It’s like planting a garden. You plant the seeds, then cultivate them. Over time and with proper care, you produce a beautiful and valuable crop.
How much would it cost a community bank to do what NPR is already doing? Probably less than the cost of a newspaper ad in many markets.
Maybe it’s time you took a more serious look at social media?
